You ban LTTE, I ban Davinci
Many blogs in Sri Lanka these days discussing whether the Davinci Code Ban in Sri Lanka is the correct action or yet another stupid action.
Janapathi is the first blog to hail the decision of many Asian countries to cut and strip this movie. Of course, he never expected such a bold move by his President who does not have guts to call for a Ban of LTTE activities in Sri Lanka.
Well he did have the balls to Ban DaVinci.
We should brainstorm what made him to do it?
1. President needed something to Ban in Sri Lanka when he asked from EU and other countries to ban LTTE. So the Davinci Code became the victim.
2. First Lady got pissed off with Dan Brown. She participate in all his Buddhist ceremonies irrespective of her religion (a great example for all sri lankans though!) but she could not stand on this one. So the president gave something back to appreciate her support.
3. No Cinema in Sri Lanka to show this movie. We have 3 CLOSE to proper Cinemas in Sri Lanka. But that too, half filed with Cinema Lovers. So the president, counting on his past experience has correctly calculated the risks and benefits of this movie. Basically no one will watch this even if it opens in Sri Lanka. So then what’s the point of having this movie here?
4. Give a slap on LTTE and showed the world that LTTE Terrorists are the sole supporters of this Movie.
5. To please the sri lankan church after hearing all this attacks on various churches in Sri Lanka and the displeasure of many Christians about the Presidents’ open support towards promoting Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
6. Ranil and Kothalawala has begged to Ban this movie and promised certain incentives to the President. Similar to what they gave to CBK. We never knew the facts until CBK resigned.. right? Where is CBK now?
7. President has never read this BOOK and not aware about a Book called Davinci Code readily available in all Vijitha Yapa bookshops and many other bookshops in Sri Lanka.
8. President has never heard of that pirated CD selling places in Sri Lanka.
9. This movie can create more road traffic in Sri Lanka because 2 Cinemas located on the Pavements and the other one does not have any Parking. Big problem!!!
10. To prevent Dan Brown becoming more popular than the President.

11. President can't understand kadda, and don't know what the book/movie contains. He thinks it's a porn flick involving Mona Lisa and Leo, and Dan Brown is the stud.
If I ever get chance to ban any Art – I may choose the crappy Tele-drama Mahinda acted some time back. Never ever a Tom Hanks movie. But when I think about it, I may not even ban crappy Mahinda’s Tele-drama – because he should have his freedom to make his own art – I’m not medieval lunatic after all.
Let me add couple of points too..
11th point. I think this is done on pure jealousy – Jealousy that Hanks is a better actor than a Rajapaksha – at least in the global audience.
12th point is – this is not a suitable movie for Sri Lankans. More than 60% of kids in Sri Lanka suffer form malnutrition. Sri Lankans could not afford glucose to ‘think by them self’. And we are so against the evil act call FREE THINKING. Even the education department supports the president in this.
13th - This movie is too much unrealistic to believe. The movie say: a guy who had long hair, and used to hang out with whole bunch of guys and those who even once got arrested by Roman religious police because of scantily dress in public and then run a way naked, and also the man who was having a another man ‘whom Jesus loved’ ‘lying close to the breast of Jesus’ (John 13:23,25, 21:20) – all the sudden got married to a woman (!!!) and had a baby! Give a man a brake! What Brown trying to suggest? Jesses had sex with a woman! Jeee! Disgusting! Even Ranil supports the president in this.
14th – This movie bad mouth about government. This movie clearly suggests that old Roman rulers Ban some of the literature (there was no movies those days). Jeee! Governments have been never ever done such a humiliation to human intelligent by banning Art!.
15th – We all know Sri Lankan can’t do anything correctly by our self after Anuradapura era and only hope we have is invisible imaginary guy who used to pregnant other men’s wife’s. How dare mr.Brown you look down upon our political allies. Even we are planning to ask his help for north and east conflict too. In such a critical time in Sri Lankan history we can afford to make our allies upset.
16th – Mahinda can’t protect anything correctly. At least it is good Mahinda took action to protect the virginity of some body. But I’m confused here. Isn’t Jesses and his father is the same person? Then theoretically who made his mother pregnant. (Hmmm.. I can’t think my self. I should ask our government.)
17th - Ban baby Ban. Ban everything. That is all our governments have been doing all this far.
18th – This is not good for future of tourism. We are planning to promote Sri Lankan as an unchanged old tribal group in tiny isolated island in Indian Ocean. We can’t change our life long plan now just because of a movie.
Evidently a truly educated line of thought. What a marvel! A true genious, on par with Einstein!
