Politics & Monks. Spell the boundaries and disrobe anyone who violates
I think it’s the time for the council of monks in different sects to sit together and start to discuss this topic. It’s for the interest of Buddhism as a whole in the world. Forget about
Bikkhus should follow a certain guidelines and principles. I am not saying that they should be banned from politics. What I am saying is, if they are allowed to do politics, then it has to be within a certain framework and also they should be asked to take prior permission to do so. They should have sound reasons to engage in politics.
For example, we Buddhists should not allow dhamma to be used as a mean to get votes during election meeting. If anyone wants to do politics, then they can disrobe and engaged in political activities. I am a Buddhist and very much concerned about the growing trend and the deteriorating behavior of monks in
They may have reasons to get upset. Not only them. Many Sri Lankans should have reasons to upset over the way things are happening with peace talks and war and daily killings. What about the intimidation, getting defeated, getting killed and living in fear. Saying so.. monks should not be allowed to go insane. The last thing we want is, getting labled as "buddhist extremists".
It's not fair to other buddhist countries in the world.

I went to the rally. I could not understand why those monks came to it and did that. They should think more before do something like that. If wants to protest, they can do many other things. Really bad for buddhism in Sri Lanka.
I do not agree with above comment and this post. History shows occasions our monks has gone to fight with enemies to protect the country. This situation needs such a service from them. we should be thankful for them. I think janapathi should have studied the history more before commenting on this . did you go to that rally to say like that? I am sure no. What you have heard is what the media is saying. Sri Lankan media, specially English language and many bloggers here are linked to Christian NGO network. They are using the incident.
janapathi,
- How many buddast countries you have in this world?
- How many years they can hold in to it?
Monks are monks. When did monks behaved well? They rape children. They drink and smoke. They run brothels inside temples.
I know you cut this comment if you do not like it.
Look Man.. I do not cut your comments. Do not insult other religions. No point of writing a reply for insane comments like yours.
Hey first Anonymous.. Because some one else have done it before it does not mean it is correct thing to do. Buddha has clearly explained what is right and what is wrong.
May be Janapathi should study History - I don’t know about that ~ But you should study Buddhism little bit more. History is not Religion. History is separate subject and you get separate exam for History.
Second Anonymous.
For your information there are no Buddhist countries in the world. There is no such a thing call 'Buddhist Country' in Buddhism.
For sure Buddhism can last more than you can last in this world. So don’t worry about how long Buddhism can last ~ worry how long you can last.
When did monks behaved well? I don’t know. I only worry about my behavior. Do you worry about yours? If you do ~ i'm glad ~ you are a Buddhist.
Yes. Monk can do any thing you listed. When they do that, we call them 'Bad Monks' and we don’t like them. I’m glad you don’t like them too. Isn’t is good we all have similar view about that?
I think this is a very valid point. We are different from each other. Monks are human and they too different from each other. For example, although they take oaths, two lawyers, two doctors will not be identical. That is why we humans need some kind of laws to seperate good actions and bad actions. Thuis should be applied to monks as well. Anyone can become a monk. Therefore, monks should not be treated above the law. That's one point. On the other hand, monks represent buddhists. Any good, bad action they take will effect all buddhists in the world. I also think we should address this issue now.
politicians are elected to run a country.. priests are preachers of a religon
