What if EU lift the LTTE terrorist BAN?

BBC NEWS | South Asia | EU says Tamil Tigers 'terrorists'

So now, everyone is happy about the EU ban on LTTE. In my opinion, they must be more happy than us. They got a very good chance to show the world how well they are organized, how many tamils support them, to organize talk shows, to ask leading British MPs to talk in Tamil.. So the next thing they want is, organize a fight to lift the ban on LTTE. How will that effect to this entire game? Did you think of that?

Government should set up and help to develop strategic Sri Lankan groups in all develop countries. This is a very important issue pending for a long time. I am aware of some sri lankan groups operating in some countries, voluntarily organizing many events to support Sri Lanka and also to organize protests against the vital issues that can effect Sri Lanka. For example, the Sri Lankan rally against the Biased BBC news in UK. It is not easy for them to organize such events all the time. It needs the backing of the Government. GOSL can copy the model from LTTE terrorists. How they are organized in all countries and how they launch them to build an international opinion and to raise funds. It is very important to give a high priority for this and start educating the international community about the myths and the facts of this war. Also to put forward a solution and present it to the international community. No point of sitting and waiting, expecting LTTE terrorists to come forward for talks, asking them what they want and then disagree. GOSL should adopt a proactive approach than a defensive approach. That is what LTTE terrorists were doing. Do not wait and hope the EU ban will help us to find a solution.

What matters is to hit the ball to reach over the fence. Up to now, LTTE terrorists have hit the ball over the fence while GOSL is taking singles and counting on key players within the ropes. So a change of strategy is a must, if we are to finish this match. Unless we think out of the box, like the way we won the world cup, I do not see any point of EU banning LTTE terrorists.

Banning LTTE is nothing for them when it comes to the world opinion. They gave enough time for them to relocate the funds. Do you think LTTE kept all money in EU banks so that they get freezed? May be GOSL might do.. but not LTTE terrorists.
So always remember, EU LIFTING THE BAN one day will be a major blow to us and will give them so much recognition. EU can not be trusted and LTTE terrorists are capable of licking the asses of anyone to get what they want.

Sri Lankan Executives loosing jobs to Indians due to Peanuts

Read this first..
Some Indians have totally misunderstood this post. This is not about Sri Lankan companies hiring Indians for a peanut salary. What I have highlighted is, Sri Lankan companies are hiring Indian executives to make the products competitive in the global market. Also do not misunderstand the issue of local skilled labor vs migrant housemaids. These are two different subjects and this post focus about the local skill shortage. Please read all before come to wrong conclusions. In the comment section, please respect the views, opinions of others.

thanks
Janapathi
-------------------------------------------

Sri Lankan companies known for its professionalism at least in its vision and mission statement are slowly giving preference to Indians over Sri lankan managers. Let us see why they prefer Indian Managers over Sri Lankan Managers? You are always welcome to express your opinion on this in the comments section.

I have seen, read and also experienced the fact of Sri Lankan companies providing professional training to employees, 360 degree evaluations, trying to adopt all bits and pieces from all kinds of magazines and white papers but yet to find them unable to compete with Indian and far east companies. The reason is, we have forgotten the ‘Peanut Costing’ theory. "The same Peanut packet a street vendor sell for Rs 5 can be increased to a cost well over Rs 100 by allocating overheads to it".
Now what Sri Lankan companies are doing? We are trying to find out how to reduce the cost of a Peanut packet from Rs 100 to Rs 10. We do all sorts of training, hiring professionals, consultants to find ways to do this. Now that we have realized it’s not possible to find a solution for this cost cutting within Sri Lanka, we are hiring Indian executives where they sell the Peanut packet for Rs 2 in India.
So that’s the synopsis.
The ultimate price is, Sri Lankan executives with professional certifications are loosing their local jobs to Indians due to Peanuts. It’s funny, isn’t it? But that’s the truth.

It’s all about Overheads and Cost. Sometimes back, we all had a very bad impression of Chinese products. Go to a shop in Sri Lanka and find out a product not made in China. I am sure you will find it difficult. Do you want to pay for a Calculator capable of lasting a drop off from the 10th floor of a building or from your desk?

The professional bodies in Sri Lanka are yet to come out with a strategy and to identify the weaknesses and the reasons why the Sri Lankan companies are finding it difficult to compete in global level despite all sorts of professional certifications, training given to the employees. Similar to the way you finding it hard to pick a product not made in China. Try to find a CIMA certified Chinese Accountant or a Chartered Chinese Engineer. You will find it impossible. But yet, they know what the customer is looking for and what the customer would pay for it. They know how to manufacturer a calculator for cost of a peanut that will last a fall from your desk.

Some might think that Sri Lanka is too small and not having resources similar to China. I tell them to browse through the internet to find the statistics of Singapore. It is still among the leading electronic equipment manufacturers in the world.

Another interesting point is, what we do when we go to work driving our company maintained car.
Most of the time, Sri Lankan companies and it’s hire management waste time on defining a strategy. If you are an executive working for a Sri Lankan company, think how many times you will hear the word ‘Strategy’ in your company? What does that mean? We do not have a strategy.

Count the number of companies and the total value of output VS the number of certified professionals in Sri Lanka. You will find that we are way ahead of China, India or sometimes even above US. The issue is, all these certified professionals are focused on defining strategies for companies and managing the employees while no one is working to get the product out from the plant. We spend our time on meetings. Monthly meeting, weekly meeting and ad-hoc meetings. Report writing, analysis and criticizing. That’s how we spend our time. Meanwhile we contribute to making the packet of peanuts more costly than before by finding ways to add more and more overheads to the equation.

Guys, it’s time. I do not want to loose my job to an Indian. If you are a professional, then get the right message across your company and focus your time on costing and cost cutting. Do you need an Indian to come here to teach us how to cut the cost of a Peanut packet from Rs 100 to Rs 5? Think?

You ban LTTE, I ban Davinci

Many blogs in Sri Lanka these days discussing whether the Davinci Code Ban in Sri Lanka is the correct action or yet another stupid action.

Janapathi is the first blog to hail the decision of many Asian countries to cut and strip this movie. Of course, he never expected such a bold move by his President who does not have guts to call for a Ban of LTTE activities in Sri Lanka.
Well he did have the balls to Ban DaVinci.

We should brainstorm what made him to do it?

1. President needed something to Ban in Sri Lanka when he asked from EU and other countries to ban LTTE. So the Davinci Code became the victim.
2. First Lady got pissed off with Dan Brown. She participate in all his Buddhist ceremonies irrespective of her religion (a great example for all sri lankans though!) but she could not stand on this one. So the president gave something back to appreciate her support.
3. No Cinema in Sri Lanka to show this movie. We have 3 CLOSE to proper Cinemas in Sri Lanka. But that too, half filed with Cinema Lovers. So the president, counting on his past experience has correctly calculated the risks and benefits of this movie. Basically no one will watch this even if it opens in Sri Lanka. So then what’s the point of having this movie here?
4. Give a slap on LTTE and showed the world that LTTE Terrorists are the sole supporters of this Movie.
5. To please the sri lankan church after hearing all this attacks on various churches in Sri Lanka and the displeasure of many Christians about the Presidents’ open support towards promoting Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
6. Ranil and Kothalawala has begged to Ban this movie and promised certain incentives to the President. Similar to what they gave to CBK. We never knew the facts until CBK resigned.. right? Where is CBK now?
7. President has never read this BOOK and not aware about a Book called Davinci Code readily available in all Vijitha Yapa bookshops and many other bookshops in Sri Lanka.
8. President has never heard of that pirated CD selling places in Sri Lanka.
9. This movie can create more road traffic in Sri Lanka because 2 Cinemas located on the Pavements and the other one does not have any Parking. Big problem!!!
10. To prevent Dan Brown becoming more popular than the President.

When Prabha met Solheim and the story continues

When Solheim initially met Prabha of the wanni shithole, he fell in love with him, and during his questions about his life, he asked him how he had sex.
"Prabha not know sex for years" Prabha replied.

Solheim explained to him what sex is all about.

Prabha said, "Oh, Prabha use hole in trunk of tree."

Horrified, Solheim said, "Prabha you have it all wrong, but I will show you how to do it properly."

He took off his clothes and lay back, lifted his ass in doggy style on the ground. "Here," he said. "You must put it in here."

Prabha removed his tiger cloth, stepped closer with his tiny erection, and then gave Solheim an almighty kick right on his hanging balls.

Solheim rolled around in agony for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually he managed to gasp for air and screamed, "What did you do that for?"

Prabha said,
"Prabha check for bees."

From that day onwards the love affair Solheim had with Prabha ended.

Janapathi.. so why Solheim here again???

The next part of Solheim story…Janapathi will post in few months time.. Till then.. enjoy this photo with the courtesy of colombo page..

Disgrace for the great philosophy

Christian churches come under attack in Sri Lanka

This is a low level, immoral act and I really can not understand why the Buddhist people in Sri Lanka tollerate such attacks over other religions no matter what the reasons behind are. Buddhism is a great philosophy where we learn to tolerate views of others. As a Buddhist, I should say that this kind of acts should not be tolerated and the people engage in this kind of acts to spread religious tension should be isolated. Also should investigate on hidden agendas of such attacks if any.

If people, monks, priests or whoever do not follow the principles of the respective religion, philosophy then the government should step in and bring the culprits forward. If they are monks, we have to have a system to strip the robes, if they found to be guilty of such crimes. It has to be done now than later.

We were living in this country for centuries without having any problems between our religions. Sadly, the society has turned violent and intolerable due to the acts of barbaric LTTE terrorists and the propaganda mechanism driven by various foreign NGO’s linked to the terrorists. Lately, many newly formed evangelist groups stepped in and started to convert Buddhists, Anglicans, Catholics to these newly formed so called religions or whatever they call themselves. As a matter of fact, they do have the freedom to do so within the legal framework of the country they operate. Unlike in China, it is not illegal to set up a branch of a new religion in Sri Lanka.

If we live in a society where we help/respect each other, then it is impossible for these groups to convince anyone to get converted to their religion.
If the temples and churches engage in helping the communities, I can not think how a new religion can come up and convince anyone to get converted. We are paying the price of our own negligence and at least now, we should all get together and address the key issues behind this. It is absurd if any monk or any person think to take arms, attack or burn the symbols of any other religion for the sake of protecting their own religion/philosophy.
That is exactly what some of those so called LTTE linked religious NGO’s wants us to do. So by committing these kind of shameful acts, we are encouraging them and giving them more support to build more sympathizers and to get those new religions established in our country.
Do not forget the LTTE terrorist network. They are waiting to create more conflicts between Sri Lankans and the West. For example, read the above news published by a pro-ltte tamil website and the extent they highlight the religious tension in Sri Lanka.

Shame on those who did this crime and also for allowing this kind of insanity to take place in a country that was known for its culture and values.

Sri Lanka 'must probe' killings

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Sri Lanka 'must probe' killings

Yes, many innocent people dying every day due to this conflict. Government should investigate all these cases and make the culprits face the justice for crimes against humanity. I have one question though. What Amnesty International wants the government to do for the already completed investigations? For example, let’s take the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination. I do not think any controversy over this. Now what Amnesty International suggests for those terrorists who murdered Mr. Rajiv Gandhi.

The government of Sri Lanka at least now should make the world known what they are going to do when they capture the terrorist leaders of the LTTE and publish the list of crimes against them. Similarly, they should make the world known about the outcome of all pending investigations. Including the very recent assassination attempt on the Army Commander by using a PREGNANT SUICIDE WOMAN and also the recent killings highlighted in an impartial way by the above BBC news article..

Da Vinci Code Censored in Some Asian Countries

I was reading this news today in many news channels across Asia. I do support these bans and censorship on the basis of respecting another religion. Last year, I remember that Buddhist countries protested against a movie where the director sat on top of Buddha’s head. That movie they went ahead and released in US despite all protests. Similarly, Da Vinci Code will be released in US without any censorship despite lot of protests from various Christian and evangelical groups. Recently we all witnessed the saga of Cartoons of the prophet Mohammed and the respect for other religions in western countries. At this moment of time, Asia dominated by Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim’s have shown the west how they respect other religions taking the lead.

Though the Da Vinci Code is a pure fiction, due to the immense talent of Mr. Dan Brown, this movie can make any layman to believe it as a real story. The chances of this happening in Asia are greater than in west due to the lack of knowledge about Christianity among many Asians.

It is truly a wonderful gesture from Asians to take the lead and sensor certain sections of this movie or to explain the facts before or after the movie in order to respect another persons religious believes.

I really enjoyed reading Dan Browns Da Vinci Code, Angels and Daemons and the Deception Point. It’s too bad that I will not be able to enjoy this movie that I was eagerly waiting for. But we do live in a society. So restrictions on this kind of a sensitive movie should be anticipated and should be welcomed.

Sorry Mr. Dan Brown.. you are going to loose lot of money here in Asia..

What BBC failed to understand...

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Sri Lanka: Truth, bias and the BBC: "The second is that, no matter how much we strive to maintain our guidelines of impartiality and accuracy, there will always be people on either side convinced we are biased against them."

First of all, we do not have two official parties here. One side is a democratically elected government and the other side is barbaric terrorists who keep on assassinating people and also recruiting child soldiers. Over 250 suicide bombs for god sake..

Is this what people in Briton funding for?
quote:
"Unseen violence

Apart from all the above, there are some difficult problems reporting Sri Lanka.

Lots of the worst things that happen go on well away from the eyes of independent journalists.

In these circumstances, when we can't be sure for ourselves who has done what, all we can do is report what people say has happened.

In Sri Lanka that often means this: A group of people are killed, quite possibly civilians. The government and the Tigers accuse each other of the killings.

To complicate matters further, "shadowy paramilitary groups" may have been involved.

In other words, a lot of lying goes on, but unless you have the proof of who is lying, all you can do is report what the different sides say.
That can be frustrating for journalists. But for victims of the violence, and their friends and relatives, it is sometimes seen as bias on our part if we carry the denials of those accused of the attacks."
end quote

In the well known case of Dr. Kelly vs BBC, BBC governors had to resign for reporting a story without proper evidence to support the claim. Now on what basis BBC adopt the same and escaping from any investigation. The most funny part of it is, BBC itself here admit that they cannot verify the claims made by the sources.

Since the BBC is a public charity in UK, funded by the public, it has to take the responsibility for publishing unverified reports based on its own conclusions and for admitting it.

Further, by saying so BBC is implying that the government of Sri Lanka is LYING?
This is a serious accusation against a democratically elected government and I do hope the relevant authorities will investigate further on this claim by this reporter.
quote
"In the meantime we can only continue to try to give as balanced a view as we can on events, knowing that that is the main reason why so many people think the BBC is worth following. "
end quote

Assuring a balanced view is important but should not be compromised by trying to IMPOSE another sides opinion, published to counter attack an official statement issued by the government of Sri Lanka. This is worse when the other side becomes a well known terrorist organization that the BBC is counting on.

Sri Lankan Government should explain its position on LTTE Terrorist Leaders

At this junction, it should be clear even to a 1 month old baby what the intentions of LTTE terrorists are. If anyone still believes in peace talks, they should surely seek medication for peace lunacy without any delay.
Many in south was sitting on top of a volcano until this moment, believing in Peace Talks, while LTTE terrorists were freely collecting funds and campaigning in the west (Canada, US, UK, Australia) for the 4th and Final Ealam War.

Thanks to our two great ex-leaders CBK and Ranil, LTTE was getting the maximum out of the stupidity and used its international propaganda machine to strengthen its position while using peace talks as the cover. Needless to say that the present President who was a leading member of the parliament at that time, was shit silent during this entire episode and now getting hammered for the mistakes done by his predecessors and himself.

In my opinion, we have come to the present reality of war not because of the so called ‘hard-line’ stance of the present President but because of the timing of the LTTE terrorists well planned agenda.

Whether it is Mahinda or Ranil or whoever in power today have to pass through this cycle as pre-set by the LTTE terrorists who dictated the timing of events since they declared the dictatorship in North.
It was the sinhalese leaders who should be ashamed of for not being able to read LTTE terrorist plans. This simple lack of judgement, decision making and understanding is the main cause for this WAR and the contributing factor for strengthening the LTTE terrorists internationalization over the years.

In my opinion, now it's time for the government to clearly express the plan for LTTE terrorists leaders once they captured them to face the crimes against humanity. Are we going to hand-over Terrorist leader Prabhakaran to India? Or put forward to an international war tribunal? What about the rest of LTTE terrorist leaders?

It is time to spell this clearly to the international community and then move forward in capturing the culprits than fighting another round of war against a terrorist army. It’s only this handful of terrorist dictators who drives this war and dictate terms on a soverighn country. If the government agree on that statement, they should take action against the terrorist leaders now than getting caught in to another trap later.

Links:
Sri Lanka | Janapathi Blog - Truly Sri Lankan: Terrorist Prabhakaran must face an International Criminal Court

Footnote:
I wonder, how could anyone, whether they are tamil, muslim or sinhala or whatever can expect solutions to their problems from a government who failed to understand LTTE terrorist plans from the start. On the other hand, LTTE terrorists have shown that they are more capable in predicting the needs of Tamils in the world and how to control the Sri Lankan Government.

Obviously, the failed agenda of Tamilnadu Tamils to separate the state of Tamilnadu from India was the key failure that the LTTE terrorists managed to convert to their favor. By doing that, they helped the key Tamilnadu politicians to survive in India by simply aligning themselves with the LTTE terrorists and spreading tamil nationalism.
That was the reason for them to assassinate Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, who read what the LTTE terrorists and the tamilnadu politicians intentions are, better than the Sri Lankan leaders. Though it is labled as the biggest mistake of the terrorist leader Prabhakaran, in my opinion it has left him with no other option for his own and tamil nadu politicians survival.
I consider the assassination of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi as the re-birth of the terrorist Prabhakaran and tamilnadu Politics.
Since then the ball game is played without pitching the ball on the right pitch, which is in Tamilnadu India. Sadly though, no umpires Darryl Hair or Ross Emerson to No ball them!!!

No other entity can assert sovereign rights over the sea

Sri Lanka, 5 - 16 - 2006: Sri Lanka says no other entity can assert sovereign rights over the sea

Aiyo.. I am hurt.. really hurt.. So far I thought LTTE terrorists has this tamil ealam thing going in north.

Yepee.. here we are..finally.. government, SLMM is talking.. didn’t I tell before? These LTTE butchers do not have any plan for any kind of a peace settlement. By the way, why on earth we agree on any settlement with a terrorist group? Let’s talk with Tamil parties. Not with the LTTE terrorists. Let’s start to isolate them like the way bush is conducting his hunting exercise since 9/11.
Too bad for our tamil sypathizers living with us in south, dreaming of a tamil homeland. It’s becoming a...
dream dream dream.. dream..dream dream..

Let's finish this mess at least now and help our kids to live in Sri Lanka, no matter they are tamil or sinhala or muslim or what ever..

EU slams Tigers over sea attacks

BBC NEWS | South Asia | EU slams Tigers over sea attacks: "'Nobody has the right to pass judgment on the sovereign rights of our access to the adjacent sea and air space of our homeland,'"

What a childish statement from a grown up Selvam boy. Come on. Your homeland? Where?
You were referring to Tamilnadu I guess..

Janapathi Vesak Message.. We want Peace! But No War!

We want Peace! But No War!

Message from SLMM, Norway, US and all other International Peace Groups

"We urge the government of Sri Lanka to continue to show restraint in the face of these provocations"

US, SLMM, Norway and all other International peace groups are typing the same bloody statement. I expected a much realistic Vesak Message from this group of players.

Stop your bullshit. BAN LTTE first. You show your restraint first. Everyday they kill so many people. Still we are waiting and you are counting. Yes, Waiting, Waiting, Waiting..
For the sake of true peace in this country, lets hope some of your own officers to get killed by them… yes by mistake.. Then we will see your restraint and your sympathy towards LTTE terrorism.

Since the military personal getting killed everyday are not high ranking officers..who cares! just show restraint..lets try to cut another round of peace talks.. right?

Ok.. now this is my Message

Hey..come..on.. Listen to me.. I am your Janapathi.. This is my message

“It is with a profound sense of devotion that I send this message, on the occasion of the 2550th Buddha Jayanthi. Vesak Full Moon Day is the most precious day for Buddhist world over, since it marks the Birth, Enlightenment and the Passing Away of the Lord Buddha.

The transcendental teaching of the Buddha, upholds that the mind is the precursor of all deeds and even peace as well as war evolves in the mind. Therefore, peace and solidarity too originates in the mind of mankind.

Today the entire world appears to be at loggerheads and at the brink of war. As such the teaching of the Enlightened One is of unrivalled importance, particularly in the present era since it exhorts the mankind that all those who wage war are destined to downfall and ultimate destruction. It also teaches us the futility of hatred and atrocities.

If the sublime doctrine of the Buddha is understood and followed the present day world could be converted to one of a peaceful and tranquil place where loving-kindness reigns. What is most needed today is to follow the five precepts, taught by the Buddha practically in our day to day life.

The objective of celebrating the 2550th Buddha Jayanthi shall be to observe the five precepts and abstain from all undesirable deeds so that we may march towards a conflict-free world.

As a first step towards such a destination my government has censored the consumption of liquor and meat during this most precious period of Vesak.

So let all of us determine, on this most sublime day to deviate from sinful deeds and practice the five precepts. May the blessings of the Triple Gem, be on all of us."

Now say.... SADU! SADU! SADU! … Hmmm.. not loud enough.. let’s go for another loud round for the peace.. SADU! SADU! SADU!

Message from UNP

"Peace loving Sri Lankans living in Colombo is more concerned about petrol price increases and the traffic situation. We need to decide on who can keep the Colombo city clean. No one wants WAR again. We have PEACE..thanks to our leader Ranil.. Yepeee.. Yes we have PEACE.. NO WAR thanks to UNP and Ranil.. Amen!"

Message from no one

Janapathi.. you are out of your mind today.. How can you so sarcastically say that we have a war in Sri Lanka?.. Look.. no suicide bombs in Colombo except the recent one. That too is a conspiracy.. still the investigation is going on..until proven ..no one is guilty.. democracy.

Now let's take the positive side of it.. thanks to that bomb..FIRST time we found out that the international media is promoting LTTE terrorist news. That’s more serious than the war. More than the suicide bomb, world was talking about the ‘genocide’ of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Shame on the media for not thanking us for leaving the TNA MPs alive in our parliament for future artifacts, before eliminating the rest..
Now we do not have any tamil living in colombo thanks to the ‘genocide’ and the ‘systematic killings’.. So no more Sirasa TV show …Janapathi cooking ‘kiri bath’ on Awrudu day.. no more.. AIYO!!!

As far as no one die in Colombo, no bombs blast again in Colombo.. we are SAFE we are HAPPY.. let's talk about Sana boy and the Cricket..

So guys.. On this Vesak Day.. Let us all say..

Long live our Leaders!!!
Show Restraint!!!
May we find more Soldiers!!!

SADU! SADU! SADU!

May the blessings of the Triple Gem, be on all of us to win the cricket match..

SADU! SADU! SADU!

Janapathi

SADU! SADU! hey..stop..enough now

Sri Lankan Students Network

Sri Lankan Students Network

First hand information always matters. I have come across many parents sending kids to study in foreign universities by listening to various local and foreign agents and later facing various problems. Some of the common problems are;
1. The university is not recognized like the way that the agent or the university web site described it.
2. The university is not a university but a college.
3. The degree/university ask the student to have a certain minimum standard and the student having to spend years on studying and preparing for an entrance examination.
4. Showing a rosy picture about, how other students earn and study in some countries without explaining the legality of it.
5. Promising to find part time jobs for students and ending up with nothing.
6. Charging off-hand unreasonable amounts as university fees and later discovering that the direct admission would have cost them half of it.
7. Other scams and extra charges related to the visa process. (When it comes to student visas, the process is straightforward)
8. Parents going for mortgages, loans etc to find the money for full year university fees and later discovering the availability of the option of semester based, subject based payments.
9. In many cases, university apartments costing more than private apartments.

Above are some of the issues I have read and heard over the years. This site is a great place to help each other.

http://www.slstudents.org/ … Keep up the good work.

He was Lord Buddha

He was Lord Buddha

By Nalini Colonne

Born to a confused suffering world, was a man unsurpassed,
Not immortal, not divine, yet God-like ways He had,
The way to Truth, the path to Peace, He showed in logical form,
Two thousand years and more ago, was Gautama Buddha born

Seeing the misery of the world, the anguish and remorse,
He yearned to seek the Deathless, rid man of endless woes,
Renouncing Royal inheritance, infant son and wife,
Alone He roamed in ascetic garb, He was but twenty-nine

For six long years He laboured hard to seek release from pain,
Mortified Himself in various ways to achieve His noble aim,
Until one blessed blissful dawn, He found what He did seek,
When with striving and with wisdom, He reached the utmost peak

No divine aid, no heavenly power, He summoned for this task,
Deep compassion, boundless love, for us was all He had,
The insight He did thus attain, with mind superbly trained,
Has stood the test of centuries, The Eightfold Path its name

This way to attain deliverance with deftness He defined
His knowledge vast, His reasoning mind, a supreme God denied,
Man makes his destiny, He said, he controls his own life.
With this He raised all mankind up to a lofty height

"Our hells we ourselves do make, our Heavens we create,
We reap what we have earlier sown, what we now sow we'll reap,"
Law of cause and effect, with clarity He affirmed,
With parable and with allegory the Karmic Law confirmed

Why are some men born so blessed, why are some born cursed?
If it be a Creator's work, why is he so vicious?
Thus He reasoned, thus He queried, citing concrete fact,
Calmly revealed to us the Dhamma, not with commands, but with tact

His benign words fell on men like gentle summer rain,
'Kill, destroy, curse and burn' was never His refrain
"Purity of word and deed, a mind meditation-trained
Can cancel out previous sins, can turn one into saint."
As He thus preached, cared He not for colour, class or creed,
All men are brothers on this earth, that was His firm belief,
Total freedom to think and speak, I grant with joy to thee,
Use your reasoning powers, He said, "Be not a slave, not even unto me.

Deliverance lies within your power, follow the Path I show,
Seek not refuge in Gods and prayer, rituals by the score,
Exert yourself, cleanse your mind, release you then shall find
From this endless cycle of birth and death, wherein you are confined."
Sorrow is indeed universal, this fact He emphasised,
But a pessimist sad He never was, for He had seen the Light,
He had found the perfect answer, to halt man's many ills,
A tried and tested flawless answer, born of His many skills

All misery is caused by egotism, man's avarice as well,
What we regard as delights are transient, He said,
True happiness lies within oneself, not in rank or wealth,
Not in power, not in honour, nor in worldly knowledge

With hatred, lust and ignorance, the whole world is in flames,
Attain the Four Sublime States, the fires will then be tamed,
Sympathetic joy, equanimity, universal love, compassion,
Will help transform the entire world, will rid it of all passion

Self-reliance, moral courage, He valued above all,
Free enquiry He evoked, blind faith He did not want,
Appealed He more to intellect, not to sentiment alone,
To woman He gave an honoured place, within and without home

Science and politics, law and medicine, He took them in His stride,
His theories spelt out aeons ago, can still be well applied,
Men of learning, intellect, look up to Him as guide,
Modern science bows its head before His genius bright
His serene words spread far and wide, no blood was ever shed,
No mighty king unsheathed his sword to propagate the Faith,
Alone of all great religions the world has ever known,
His sublime teaching stands unique for the tolerance it has shown
The greatest man to walk this earth has left His message and gone,
But His profound philosophy stands firm, unchallenged, strong,
His noble aim of self-less service is example to us all,
As is His infinite compassion for all beings great and small.

Pro-LTTE MPs protest in Sri Lanka Parliament

Sri Lanka, 5 - 9 - 2006: Pro-LTTE MPs protest in Sri Lanka Parliament

Is this protest includes the assassination attempt of the Army Commander and those who got killed? What these barbaric terrorists representative can say about the LTTE terrorists using a pregnant suicide TAMIL woman? What about the rights of the unborn TAMIL child? Barbaric assholes.. living with us in Colombo and helping a terrorists organization to kill us. The have forgotten that the same army they killed are protecting them and providing them assurance and support to travel to meet the terrorist leaders. Now talking of ‘Innocent Tamil civilians’ getting killed. I wonder what discrimination they face in Sri Lanka? We even allow this kind of terrorists supportive stage dramas to take place in the Parliament respecting individual views and rights. really.. unbelievable mass murderers !!!

We Remember! On this day, 3rd of May 1986.

On this day, the 3rd of May 1986, LTTE Terrorists bombed the UL512 Air Lanka Flight, killing 21 and injuring 41 tourists.

Today, we remember all those innocent who were onboard.

Flight UL512 was carrying mainly French, British and Japanese tourists and was about to fly on to the Maldives Islands in the Indian Ocean.

The BBC report of this news on 3rd of May 1986

This was just one attack against innocent civilians to achieve a separate 'tamil homeland' by the LTTE. Are they freedom fighters or terrorists. You decide.

Yet another crime against humanity.

All those who are responsible in this attack (including the Terrorist Anton Balasingham)are freely travelling in and out of Europe for various Peace Talks. No Arrest warrants issued, no international investigation carried out. Instead, EU is protecting them.

That's the justice and the respect EU has given to its own citizens who got killed in this bomb blast.

We Remember!

BUDDHA JAYANTHI & LONDON A'LEVEL EXAMINATIONS

02 May, 2006
SinhalaNet By Ramani D.Wickramaratne

Buddhists worldwide, seem to be facing a Christian conspiracy from The United Kingdom! It is extremely doubtful that other Catholic/ Christian countries are not in tow with this latest ploy to dampen the most holy holiday for Buddhists- sinister as their plans often prove to be.

Wesak has been declared by The United Nations as an International Buddhist Holiday. The Wesak this year, also happens to be the Buddha Jayanthi Celebrations where Buddhists the world over celebrate the 2550th year of the 3 Holy Events associated with life of The Buddha. Are we to believe that UN declarations have no value whatsoever, or that western powers are so insensitive to any religious festival other than Christian ones? Would these countries decide to hold worldwide examinations like the London A'Levels on Christmas Day or Easter Holidays? Or for that matter on Prophet Mohamed's Birthday?

The GOSL , The Ministry of Education and The BOI must surely pay attention to blatant plans to insult and inconvenience Buddhists in this country by conducting London A'Level Examinations at a time when the whole country is preparing to celebrate The Buddha Jayanthi this year. There is no doubt that this is by no means a coincidence and Buddhists the world over should also take note of this since countries like Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Laos and India are all planning to celebrate The Buddha Jayanthi this year. All these countries will surely have students who are preparing for their London A'Level Examinations this year & those Buddhist students will be deprived of spending the day in religious observances as is the normal practise.

It is definitely not too late for the relevant authorities in The United Kingdom to postpone the papers set to be conducted as a gesture of decency towards all Buddhists in this world, even if they have made an oversight. We do hope that decency will prevail in these western humanitarian & democratic countries that profess to uphold " everything that is decent" for developing Asian countries like ours to follow as an example! Supposedly, those countries are more civilized than the " barbarian" Asian countries!
